Highlights
Filter 20,000+ files by tag in milliseconds. Stack multiple tags with AND or OR logic to find exactly what you need.
One grid, all media types. Video files get a play badge. Click to open inline — muted, looping, instant preview.
Opens UTagger catalogues natively. Also imports XMP sidecars, Eagle libraries, Hydrus Network, ExifTool data, and Stash.
How It Works
Download UTagger for Mac or Windows. Enter your licence key and your xAI API key. Everything is saved locally — nothing leaves your machine.
Point UTagger at any folder. It scans recursively — every subfolder, every file. Works with libraries of any size.
Grok vision AI analyses each file and assigns descriptive tags. Runs in parallel — process up to 10 files simultaneously.
Query your library by any tag. Export to CSV, XMP sidecars, or embedded metadata. Works with Lightroom, digiKam, and more.
Features
UTagger runs entirely on your machine. Files go directly from your computer to the AI API — no central server, no cloud storage.
You pay xAI directly for API usage. No markups. Tagging a 20,000-image library typically costs $3–8 in API fees total.
Up to 10 files processed simultaneously. A 20,000-image library completes overnight. Interrupted? It resumes exactly where it left off.
Hundreds of descriptive categories covering subject, setting, style, mood, colour, and composition — across both images and videos.
Tags export to CSV, XMP sidecar files, and embedded EXIF/IPTC metadata. Compatible with Lightroom, Bridge, digiKam, and more.
Native desktop app. No browser, no monthly fee, no internet required after initial setup. Yours to keep, forever.

FAQ
xAI is the company behind the Grok AI model. Create an account at x.ai, add a payment method, and generate an API key. UTagger uses this key to analyse your images and videos. You're billed directly by xAI — UTagger takes no cut. Tagging 20,000 images typically costs $3–8 total.
No. UTagger runs entirely on your machine. Each image or video frame is sent directly from your computer to xAI's API and immediately processed. Nothing passes through UTagger's servers, and xAI does not store your images after analysis.
Image Tagger supports JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WebP. Video Tagger supports MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, and most common video formats.
There's no hard limit. UTagger is designed for large libraries — 10,000 to 500,000+ files. It processes in parallel, auto-saves progress, and resumes exactly where it stopped if interrupted. A 50,000-image library typically completes in one overnight run.
Yes. UTagger exports tags as XMP sidecar files and embedded EXIF/IPTC metadata, both of which Lightroom, Bridge, and digiKam read natively. You can also export a CSV for import into any other tool.
Each licence is for one person for personal or professional use on their own machines. Contact us for team or studio licensing.
